Interclassique Music Production

Thomas Hampson and Alexandros Kapelis.

Long recognized as one of the most innovative musicians of our time, baritone Thomas Hampson is the recipient of countless international honours for his singular artistry and his cultural leadership. Usually appearing in the world’s major concert halls and opera houses, this performance of Schubert’s Winterreise is a rare occasion to hear the acclaimed opera star in the intimacy of a small concert hall, where he will display his much-admired sensitivity, nuance, and profound understanding of the German Lied. Posing great interpretative demands on the performers due to its scale and structural coherence, the Winterreise holds a foremost place in the repertoire and is a tour-de-force for performer and audience alike.

The piano's role is also of unprecedented importance in the genre’s history, its rhythms constantly expressing the moods of the poet and supplying rich effects in depicting the imagery of nature. Pianist Alexandros Kapelis, fresh from recording the complete solo keyboard concertos by J.S. Bach with the Berliner Baroque Solisten of the Berlin Philharmonic, joins Mr. Hampson in tackling Schubert’s masterpiece. In addition, Kapelis will open the evening’s programme with Schubert’s much-loved Op. 90 Impromptus for solo piano.
